More ideas and Rough blockout

Our first idea was very rough and chaotic. I think reason for that was all the freedom we had, so we used reference partly and went a bit crazy. I had this weird idea of corner fountain/pool and combination of round and square shapes for a courtyard. Temple with large dome had to be a focus point of the whole scene.

At the very beginning we went with absolutely huge scale of the environment, especially considering that focus of our cinematic are going to be character and animation. We weren't really sure what is the right scale for this project, so we wouldn't get downgraded for it's size. After looking at some scenes from that past years, that got clear for us and we changed the scale.

Second most important thing after reference is feedback. In this case scale got fixed, and it was working, but now scene started to remind a coliseum.
We also tried to implement this crazy pool idea, which didn't work at all and we got rid of it. Good thing about it is that it forced us to look more into the reference so we went with something like this

As you can see here we also got back to more rectangular layout, that was influenced by the reference of Royal Palace in Spain - Alcazar de Sevilla. What we liked about fountain inbuilt in the ground was that it breaks the ground plane and adds more hight variation.
